An online platform to help people produce, share and recreate knowledge across languages, cultures, sensory barriers and learning styles. The project aims to develop a web prototype by targeting Qatar Foundation students in the Humanities and Social Sciences, and by including them in the sociotechnical innovation process. Conceived as a Media for the Umma (‘Community’ in Arabic), Media4UmmaNities will make the humanities accessible, multilingual, multimodal and, contrary to common prejudice, impactful. Pitch was prepared with Dr. Marc Owen Jones for the HBKU Innovation Centre and videorecorded.
Starting Grant (2018-2020)
This research project revisits interpreting ethics in video- and interpreter-mediated hearings of the French National Court of Asylum Right. It analyses a corpus of video- and interpreter-mediated hearings between the judiciary (in mainland France) and Latin American asylum appellants (in the French overseas territories). It combines Spanish-French textual analysis with fieldwork in French Guyana to identify the levers towards greater communication justice in the national asylum adjudication systems. Funded by HBKU. Partnership with Pr. Christian Licoppe (Telecom ParisTech and the Canadian Cyber-Justice Program).
Grantee (2003-2005)
In this project, titled « Simultaneous Interpreting Quality Assessment: incidence parameters », I was in charge of collecting and transcribing a corpus of the European Parliament monthly ordinary sessions for the ECIS research group. I then used this corpus, composed of deputees’ original speech (video), its simultaneous interpretation into the EU official languages (audio) and its transcriptions (texts), to develop my own BA thesis on the interpretation of political discourse, combining textual analysis with contextual-institutional analysis. Funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology. Principal Investigator: Prof. Ángela Collados Aís.
Principal Investigator (Since 2017)
IATIS-TraduXio project, co-funded by UNESCO, IATIS, and the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, is an applied research project to take steps to address the lack of translation among international online academic organizations. It builds on TraduXio, a collaborative and multilingual online translation tool, developed by the Université de Technologie de Troyes, to develop a suitable translation space (the TraduXIo-IATIS space) for IATIS (the International Association of Translation and Intercultural Studies) to deliver multilingual communication flows, be it in the organization of its international conferences or in any information it publishes on its website.
